Himba People, Namibia
The Himba women and girls cover their hair with clay, creating clay dreadlocks and smear their bodies to protect themselves from the sun and mosquitos. They wear goat and sheep skins around their waists and cover their bodies in jewellery. Unfortunately it seems that the tradition is no longer standing for the men, who wear western style clothing and work in the towns.
The experience was somewhat a little strange and I wasn’t completely comfortable with situation as it felt a bit like I had intruded and was not fully welcome, however I’m glad to have had the opportunity to see this group of interesting people.

its really not difficult to find someone to take u to a village, this trip for me was one of the worst photo experiences i had, they didnt want me there, i was an intruder. insist on a village that are wanting ur presence, ur pics will turn out way better and ur lasting experience will be better too , good luck and enjoy

how are you getting to himba country? own transport? or with a tour? basically u have to view who is the most truthful person in town once u get there… and whether these people are just talking u to a place where u feel bad as i did photoing and even being there…. i can help little more, however feel that i did not get a good and welcoming experience. if you want to discuss this more email me on : hazelvint@hotmail.com
