Oceans Research Chum Trip
The Oceans Research Chum trip was really exciting and somewhat sickening. It was the first time I have seen a Great White Shark in person. Most of the time you are just sitting waiting for the sharks to be attracted to the chum that is continuously added to the water. Although the seasickness was not the most enjoyable feeling, when the sharks finally came to the boat it was all action and playtime. The reason for the chum trips is to collect data about the specific sharks in the Mossel Bay area. The interns log markings and photograph dorsal fins enabling analysis on the data collected.
